There cannot be many rock followers who aren’t conscious of the cruel mockery poured on the Canadian rock giants. However the way it began is much less extensively recognized.
Chatting with the KFC Radio podcast, the band reveal that the origins of the merciless remedy return to the early 2000s and a Comedy Central present referred to as Robust Crowd With Colin Quinn. It was a panel present by which visitor comedians mentioned present affairs.
On one episode, the panel turned their consideration to the debunked outdated trope that music could make folks violent. Rise up comedian and actor Brian Posehn drops the throwaway line: “No-one talks in regards to the research which present that unhealthy music makes folks violent. Like, Nickelback makes me wanna kill Nickelback. They’re horrible simply belief me.”
Within the trailer teasing the present, Comedy Central included a clip of Posehn’s quip.
Frontman Chad Kroeger tells KFC Radio: “Some comic — I am gonna must go discover the man’s identify so I can go bomb his home — makes this shitty crack about us. And he is on Comedy Central. They took that, they put it in a business for that one present.
“And that performed on Comedy Central for six months straight, this Nickelback joke. That begins this complete factor going. That is the place it actually began, at that one second. After which it began making its method into motion pictures and we get all these things.”
Drummer Daniel Adair provides that the Nickelback jokes had been so frequent that folks determined they hated the band virtually robotically.
Adair says: “It was like an expectation. Charlie Benante, the drummer for Anthrax, got here to our present about 5 – 6 years in the past. I talked to him after and he was like, ‘I assumed I used to be presupposed to hate Nickelback.’
“Like he did not even give it some thought, prefer it was pre-programmed. And he is like, ‘I do know all these songs, you guys are fucking nice.’ It form of shook him out of his haze of, ‘we simply must hate that band’.”
